With the competition for top employees high, corporate image and reputation are important. Companies that can offer better employee perks have a competitive advantage. One of the best benefits of high quality employee discount programs is the ability to monitor stats and usage. Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic, is widely considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe with preserved examples from all periods of its history and belongs among the most visited cities on the continent. Situated on the River Vltava in central Bohemia, Prague has been the political, cultural, and economic centre of the Czech state for over 1100 years. The city proper is home to more than 1.2 million people, while its metropolitan area is estimated to have a population of over 1.9 million.

Prague was developing as an important centre where Czech, German and Jewish cultures met and mingled. Following the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1918, Prague became the metropolis of the new country. It experienced a growth of its territory and a great architecture boom.

Known as the “golden city of spires,” Prague in the Czech Republic has architectural splendours that span a thousand years. Prague is your introduction to the Medieval, Baroque, and Renaissance buildings. 

For most of its history Prague had been a multiethnic city with important Czech, German, and (mostly Czech- and/ or German-speaking) Jewish populations. From 1939, when the country was occupied by Nazi Germany, and during World War II, most Jews either fled the city or were killed in the Holocaust.

Since the fall of the Iron Curtain, Prague has become one of Europe’s (and the world’s) most popular tourist destinations. Nicknames for Prague have included “the mother of cities” (Praga mater urbium)”, “city of a hundred spires” and “the golden city”.

Centuries of construction gave rise to an exceptional integrated architectural complex, unique in the world as regards its size and concentration of cultural heritage. Different architectural styles mingle and intertwine here, and their symbiosis creates the city’s unique atmosphere. The most valuable part of the city’s centre was declared the Prague Heritage Reserve in 1981, which was included in UNESCO’s world cultural heritage list in 1992. 

Prague is the seat of the top-level legislative, administrative and political bodies of the country – the parliament, government, and president. The most important social, cultural and educational institutions reside here. The city is the entrance gate to the Czech Republic. You can admire here all the architecture treasure.

Flooding From Hurricane Ike Caused Major Damage And Death

September of 2008 will be remembered because of the 9/11 anniversary, but it will also be remembered because of the damage caused by Hurricane Ike. Much of the destruction that was caused by this category two hurricane took place in Texas and Louisiana along the coast lines of the Gulf of Mexico, but other areas further inland, like the city of Houston, got their share of damage as well.

Hurricane Ike was only one of several strong storm systems that have come ashore in the Gulf this season, but it was one of the worst. People knew for days in advance that it was coming and many people evacuated to avoid being trapped in their homes during and after the storm. Some of the ones who decided to stay and did not evacuate, ended up wishing they had heeded the warning to leave.

A total of 40 or more people were killed because of Ike related incidents. Approximately 2000 people ended up being rescued because they did not leave. Ike has caused the largest search and rescue mission in Texas history. For those that were rescued after the storm, the only thing many of them could do was to board buses that were supplied to take them to shelters. There they have to remain until they are allowed to return to their homes, that is, if their homes are fit to return to.

Other evacuees that left before the storm were told to stay out of Galveston for the time being. It was not sure when they would have power and other utilities restored. For those that evacuated in Houston, they returned, but still had no power and some other utilities as well. It always takes time to get things back to normal after disasters such as Ike and people just have to be patient and be prepared to wait it out in their homes as best they can or stay somewhere else if it is an option for them.

It was hard for those people who were trapped by Hurricane Katrina and the ones who evacuated too and no one could know how difficult it was for them until now. For the people who live in Galveston and other areas affected by Ike, they can now be added to that short list of Americans who can tell you exactly how traumatic it is to be displaced, endure, and survive such a devastating storm.

UK University Rankings – a Comparison

Which is the best ranked university in the UK? How are universities performing? There is no official government ranking of universities in the UK. However, there are some newspaper rankings published every year by the Times Newspaper, The Telegraph,The BBC’s Student Guide, The Independent University Guide and The Guardian.

Oxford is ranked as the Number 1 University by The Independent and Guardian, outperformed Cambridge in 2008. Oxford tops the Guardian league table, followed by Cambridge, London School of Economics, Warwick, St Andrews, Imperial, University College London, the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and Edinburgh.

There are several university guides in the UK which rank all universities in order of merit, but based on different criteria. Guardian focuses on the quality of teaching and what students themselves think. The Independent Good University Guide (now The Complete University Guide) uses nine measures of quality – student satisfaction, research assessment, entry standards, student/staff ratio, library/computing spend, facilities spend, degree classifications, graduate prospects, and completion rates. All universities are assessed in these nine quality factors. It is a highly regarded university guide; students often make a reference to the ranking tables when choosing a university. There are 59 subject tables which rank the universities within individual subjects.

However, a university which ranked highly in The Times may appear in a poor position in other university guides such as the Sunday Times or the Guardian. In 2008, there are some big differences in ranking positions among the two famous university guides (Guardian and The Independent), such as the follows:

(1) University of Dundee is ranked 17 in the Guardian (A Top 20 University), but it is ranked 52 in The Independent, even not in the Top 50!

(2) University of Bristol is ranked 31 in the Guardian (outside Top30), but it is highly ranked in The Independent, at 16.

(3) Anglia Ruskin University is ranked 109 in The Independent, but it is in a higher position of 71, in the Guardian league table.

(4) Thames Valley University is ranked 85 in the Guardian, and 110 in The Independent.

(5) University of Durham is doing extremely well in The Independent, ranked at 6th position, but it is ranked 16 in the Guardian (outside Top 15).

(6) University of Abertay Dundee is ranked 68 in The Independent, but it is outside Top 100 in the Guardian, at 105.

Which ranking guide is the best? It really depends on a number of factors.

However, if you take LIPITOR 40 mg and experience an uncharacteristic odor associated with your medication, please return the tablets to your pharmacist.
